This printable, full-color activity set includes a double-sided sign and 50 sentence cards in two styles -- with and without end punctuation (total of 100 cards).

An active game can be played with either a single child or a whole classroom to practice distinguishing between asking (interrogative) and telling (declarative) sentences. Players will also become more familiar with seeing question marks and periods at the ends of sentences.

To play this active game:

1. Print one copy of the 50 cards (there are 25 questions and 25 statements), cut out around them, and shuffle to make a deck.
2. Print one copy of the double-sided sign for each player or small group.  Cut out around the sign and fold in half, picture sides out. Glue a popsicle stick or staple a straw in the middle, to make a handle.
3. Read one sentence card at a time and have players each hold up their sign to show which they think it is: a telling sentence or an asking sentence.  Hold up the card and point to the ending punctuation, discussing WHY it should be a question mark or a period.

This set may also be used as a bulletin board display to demonstrate the use of question marks and periods at the ends of sentences.  Or print both sets of cards and match the text only (missing end punctuation) and punctuation-emphasized versions of each sentence.
