The Gait Guys
Part 1: Foot Anatomy and Biomechanics:
This segment, designed for physicians, therapists, trainers, coaches and professinal athletes, was filmed in the studios at the Austin School of Film in 2011. It is a recorded lecture format of Drs. Waerlop and Allen along with a power point presentation. It discusses the evolution of shoes and then delves into foot anatomy and landmarks often used for measurements and fit. Common pathologies and deformities seen and their implications are introduced next. “Fit Bits”, which are how foot anatomy interacts with shoe construction, are included throughout the presentation. Common motions of the foot (inversion, eversion, dorsiflexion, plantar flexion, abduction, adduction, pronation, supination) are described, illustrated and where appropriate, demonstrated. Biomechanical concepts such as pronation, supination and the rockers of the foot are explained and demonstrated. Finally, parameters for normal gait and the gait cycle, along with some of the biomechanical events occurring during it are discussed.
