Wellington Bomber MF-509
On 20th November 1944, the crew of Wellington Bomber MF509 took off on a night time cross-country training exercise. During the mission the plane experienced engine troubles and as it descended over the mountains of the Brecon Beacons, the aircraft flew into the southwest slope of Garreg Goch. In all, six Royal Canadian Air Force crew members perished. As a tribute to the memory of those aircrew, a memorial was erected by local people and has since assumed a place of honour within the Brecon Beacons. This short production tells the story of how, 60 years after that tragic event, the families of the crew were traced, leading to a poignant memorial service for the crew-members at the crash site.
