Revue du MAUSS No 39 Que donnent les femmes ?
After some 2,500 years of philosophy, some 200-300 years of social studies, one century of psychoanalysis and a few decades of feminist theorises and gender studies, is there any progress to be expected in the study of men-women relationships?
This latest issue of Revue du MAUSS, French academics and analysts examine the complexities, ambivalences and reversibilities of these relationships through the prism of the gift. Women appeared to have been assigned to the gift since the Greek Goddess Pandora, while at the same time women's gifts have been both celebrated and denied, as if "true" gift could only be masculine. Is it possible to conceive the "feminine subject" in a relationship to the gift which would not be an alienating one? (570 pages, all in French, English abstracts)
