GANKAKU - kata & application volume 19
Gankaku - also known as Chinto - is a distinctive kata. The "crane on a rock" posture is often confused for something that might be done to avoid a strike with a bo staff. This then leads to more assumptions about the nature of the kata.
In this video, about an our long, John Burke sensei demonstrates how the moves can be used in the modern world, with the types of attack that one might reasonably expect to have to deal with. You will see how Gankaku teaches us to deal with the big right hook, the grappler, and what we might do if we end up on the floor.
