Special Interest Video Jason Chan Painter Sketch 1

Jason Chan Painter Sketch 1(Video)

Jason Chan Painter Sketch 1

About this item:

In this video Jason Chan walks the viewer through the creation of a sketch done entirely in Corel Painter.  No thumbnails.  No plans.  He just gets in there and paints, revealing his thought process and revisions along the way.  The resulting image turns out beautifully, and throughout the video he discusses all the important art principals necessary to achieve such an outcome.  We hope you learn as much from this
demo as we did!

  1. Best Massive Black Video So Far

    50 rating

Jake Kobrin (October 18, 2007) This video is great. Jason explains what he is doing and why he is doing it at a nice easy pace. He dwells into the entire process. The final painting looks amazing. The sound quality was VERY much improved.
In my opinion it was the best Massive Black video so far.

  2. Totally worth it.

Anonymous please (October 19, 2007) The painting was great, the quality was great, the download was fast, finished product rocks. Jason seemed a bit nervous and tended to repeat himself quite a few times or was slightly inspecific (about visual interest and eye flow), but for any beginner to intermediate artist who is new to these concepts, It will really put the idea in their head, which is good.
I wish he would have spent a bit more time explaining concepts behind what he was doing. Such as the atmosphere, he told us he was adding fog, but he didn't go too in depth about why. Again, for a beginner it's a great vid, but I think some of the ideas could have been covered a bit more comprehensively, but for a quick sketch, and not a comprehensive guide, it was well done and did address key points.

For 10 bucks? You can't spend it any better way. Get this video!

  3. Brilliant

    50 rating

Loren Wilson (October 19, 2007) You'd be hard pressed to find a better deal for art education than this. Jason Chan guides you through the entire painting process from the setup of brushes to the finishing touches of a great illustration.. The intimate tone of the video allows Jason to express his thought process for both the creative and technical aspects of the piece. What's best though is that it does'nt feel like a paint by numbers type of tutorial where he dictates step by step but rather gives you an idea of ways to mentally approach your work. 10 dollars very well spent.

  4. I'd pay twice the price.

    50 rating

Silver Saaremäel (October 27, 2007) Massive Black has done really well with this video. With the price of 10 bucks you get to see Jason Chan paint a great painting.

During the video, you're reminded and taught how to set up painter ready, how to approach a colorpicture with a black and white underpainting, the usage of siluets and brushwork, and composition theory.

10 dollars is way too low for this.

  5. Worth every penny

    50 rating

JGarrington (November 13, 2007) For the price you won't be disappointed. Jason Chan takes you through the process of one of his concepts from sketch to final image. Greatly inspirational for any digital artist struggling with how to turn a white canvas into something beautiful.

  6. Inspiring!
